I’ve had the Canon 7D for a few days now and I’m starting to get a feel for the settings and controls. Have not had the time to go out and do some serious work with it, but I brought it with me while I ran some errands this weekend. I am blown away by the low light image quality.
This shot was indoors, using only the fridge light, ISO 6400, F7.1 @ 1/200th:
I’ll be spending more time with it and hopefully will get some great shots of the fall colors here in the Pacific Northwest. I’ll write up a full review of the camera after I have spent a couple weeks with it, rather than just a couple days of use.
I did not have much time to play with the 7D last night, other than charging the battery, playing with the menus and shooting a few test pics I did not get a chance to do any real constructive testing. I grabbed a tripod and went outside just as the sun was heading down and grabbed a few seconds of HD video just to see what it was like. I did not play with the settings at all, just put in on program mode and shot. I was impressed with the quality of the footage in such low-light conditions. Looking forward to playing with this camera this weekend.
I have been waiting weeks for Canon to release the new 7D DSLR camera. The release date was simply “late September”, I have emailed several online stores, called local camera stores and really never got a straight answer. I set up a search in tweetdeck “Canon 7D” to sweep for possible sources. Today I saw a random tweet from @kenmore_camera stating “We received our 7D’s today!! We have some left over, first come first serve!! Get yours now!!” I raced down there and picked one up. Sounds like I was at least the 6th customer who purchased a 7D this afternoon. I am looking forward to seeing the HD and low light capabilities of this one. Since it seems to be an internet “ritual” to video yourself unboxing new toys, here goes:
I’ll try to get some video and low light pics up as soon as I get some time with the camera!
