Heading to Sea-Tac on Wednesday I was impressed with how smoothly traffic was moving along on I-5. As the express lanes dip under southbound I-5 things started to slow up a bit, I noticed some activity on the left side of the road. Ended up being Seattle Police doing a little HOV enforcement. Two motor units were getting the job done by standing in the road, pointing at violators and pulling them over to the side. One of them even stopped a town car with tinted windows, making the driver roll down rear window so the office could verify it was indeed occupied by two.
A side effect of this little checkpoint was that the standard lanes moved along quicker than the HOV lanes. I thought cops stopped standing out in the road to stop violators? I recall a few incidents where officers have been hit and killed by cars using this stupid tactic.
