One of the featured and promoted cars for this years Barrett-Jackson is a 1963 Pontiac Bonneville that is claimed to be the ambulance that carried JFK’s remains from Andrews AFB to Bethesda Naval Medical Center.
Jalopnik reported earlier this week that the car was a fake. Since then the blogs and message boards have picked up with the story and it’s been a hot topic.
Friday Barrett Jackson held a press conference to address the concerns.
Steve Davis, wearing glasses indoors said something about the extensive research BJ does on all their cars while a tight-jawed Craig Jackson looked on.
The car’s owner made some comments, mentioned how upset he was about people questioning his honesty. Someone asked him if the car was a $3,000 car, or a million dollar car, given the questions on it’s history. He basically said he had no idea.
Just another unusual event that is not uncommon at the Barrett Jackson Auctions. Just a few months ago Craig Jackson himself had to honor a high bid on a 2008 Bugatti when the bidder turned out to be a deadbeat.
Another BJ Highlight: Longest running announcer for Speed’s coverage gets thrown out of Barrett Jackson for his comments about the auction.
I still watch the auction, but frankly I trust my local used car dealer more than these clowns.
