Went out to take a few photos Saturday, got some decent video of a couple trains in Edmonds, and shot some pics at the BNSF Interbay facility. I was down by the old Seattle PI building near Elliot Bay and spotted this locomotive idling quietly.
I noticed the dark, rusty area around and below the exhaust stack. Looks like this locomotive had some sort of exhaust fire, or severe overheating that burnt the paint off a significant area of the engine.
If you look closely at this photo you will see where someone has taken a yellow paint pen and wrote “Paint Me” on the rusty surface. Seems odd that BNSF would let this just rust away in the open while she is operational.
