I grew up in Lynnwood, staying there until the late 1990s. Back in the 1970s it was not unusual to see horses riding on 196th, there were still small farms around the outskirts of the city. The big thing back then was the Fred Meyers store. Other than that it was pretty much a quiet, nice little suburb. Over the years it has transformed into a commercialized mess of a city. The Mall has grown, the strip malls keep popping up, and the city planners are always 10 years behind when it comes to managing traffic. They built a beautiful convention center that shares it’s inadequate parking lot with Chuck E Cheese. The city has a lot of run down old businesses, tired old housing and apartments, and in general is becoming a deteriorating city from what I can see. The city starting using red light cameras as a revenue tool a few years ago, and just recently announced “speed cameras” for school zones in yet another attempt to grab some cash with cameras.
Well if that was not enough the city just voted to set a 8″ grass limit for it’s residents. Wonderful. Taking off for a couple weeks of vacation? Better hire someone to take care of the lawn, otherwise the City of Lynnwood might declare your home a “public nuisance”. Raining too much, working too many hours and don’t have time to mow the yard? Better be ready to “pay the man”.
Ridiculous. I dread going to Lynnwood, horrible traffic, constant radar enforcement of any road that is not gridlocked, almost rear-ending cars that slam on their brakes at the first sign of a yellow traffic light.. and on top of that the out of control car prowls at the mall and surrounding area. But I can now look forward to well maintained yards in the neighborhoods!
